The unforgettable moments. The determined faces. The winning feeling. The sheer joy. The heartaches. Athletes from 204 countries must have experienced some, if not all, of those defining aspects of the Olympics. As the Games come to an end, the Londoners admittedthat they will not match up to the great money and effort spent by the Chinese on the greatest sporting event on Earth. To the Chinese, you have seen the world, but for us, it was clear we saw China. Different skin colour and socio-economic background don't mean a thing, as these athletes gather to become the best they can be. And we have seen countless times how the human body can exceed its limits to supernatural means.
But a question that needs to be asked: even with so much political unrest in the Middle East, how can athletes still win to do their contries proud? Or that a nation with such poor conditions still produce marathon-winning athletes? Or that China, with the Sichuan Earthquakes as recent as this year, still produce a whopping 51 gold medals?
Well, people might say that it is determination in human spirit. Others might say that these athletes trained with such hard work, and reap in the benefits with monetary reward. I say it's the spirit of sports, and most importantly, the spirit of the Olympics.
Kudos to Beijing for holding one of the Best Games in history. For the athletes, keep the Olympic flame burning in your spirits.
God Bless and Peace.
